The renewed push to repeal Obamacare likely will end the bipartisan effort to improve the individual health insurance market next year.
Republican leaders, including President Donald Trump, indicated Sept. 19 they want to repeal the Affordable Care Act, not help buttress markets for the next year. It now appears unlikely the Senate will take up a bill that Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) are drafting that would ensure insurers receive billions of dollars on ACA payments to help lower premiums in 2018 and give states some flexibility to bend the health law’s insurance regulations.
