The Biden administration announced updates Tuesday to the performance standards for its Medicaid Fraud Control Units.
The units are oversight arms of the Department of Health and Human Services that investigate and prosecute fraud across state and territorial Medicaid programs, according a notice from the HHS Office of Inspector General.
Fraud control units also police patient abuse and neglect in health-care facilities that receive reimbursement from Medicaid.
Under the new performance standards, Medicaid Fraud Control Units in each state will be graded on 12 performance categories that will assist the HHS OIG in its recertification audits.
