The Biden administration’s Health and Human Services Department is revising the nondiscrimination requirements tied to agency grants under a rule proposed Tuesday.

Issued by the HHS’ Office for Civil Rights, the proposed rule (RIN: 0945-AA19) aims to shield people in the LGBTQI+ community from discrimination in agency programs through the use of existing statutes. The proposal would block discrimination over someone’s gender identity of sexual orientation.
