DOE Finalizes Transformer Efficiency Rules Amid Supply Fears (1)

The Biden administration finalized new energy efficiency standards for distribution transformers on Thursday, a move that manufacturers and a bipartisan group of lawmakers have warned could exacerbate supply chain bottlenecks.

The Energy Department standards will save consumers about $14 billion over 30 years and cut 85 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to 11 million homes, according to Secretary Jennifer Granholm.
