A federal district court judge struggled Monday with how he could block the Trump administration from enforcing a rule that would allow health-care providers to deny care to LGBTQ patients and people seeking abortions.
The Department of Health and Human Services in June issued a rule eliminating a 2016 definition of “sex” in nondiscrimination protections under Obamacare that had been written to include gender identity and termination of a pregnancy. The expanded definition meant that it violated the Affordable Care Act for health care providers to deny care to LGBTQ patients or people seeking abortions.
