The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Health would be formally established as part of the Health and Human Services Department under H.R. 5585.

The measure would authorize $500 million annually from fiscal 2023 through 2027 for the new agency, which would foster the development of innovative medical treatments, diagnostics, and preventatives for serious diseases and conditions, while also promoting high-risk, high-reward innovations in health technologies.

The bill would require ARPA-H to:

  • Identify and promote advances in health sciences and early disease detection.
  • Translate scientific discoveries into health technologies.
  • Support multidisciplinary research.
  • Accelerate transformational technological advances and demonstrate proof of concept.
