Berkeley Can Remove Homeless Encampment but Must Aid Disabled

The city of Berkeley, Calif., may sweep a longstanding homeless encampment in the northwest section of the city, a federal judge ruled at a hearing in San Francisco Tuesday, while carving roughly 19 disabled people out of his ruling.

The city must continue to engage in discussions with the people living in the Harrison Street encampment who seek reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act in face of their eviction from the encampment, Judge Edward M.
