Becton Dickinson Must Pay $4.8 Million Over Hernia Mesh Claims

A Rhode Island jury concluded Becton Dickinson & Co. must pay $4.8 million in damages to a man who blamed a hernia mesh sold by one of the company’s units for damaging his bowels and leaving him unable to work, according to his attorney.
Jurors in state court in Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday found the Ventralex hernia-mesh kit from Becton’s Davol unit was defectively designed and the company didn’t properly warn about device’s health risks, attorney Jonathan Orent said.
Trevino, a municipal worker from Hawaii, sued in Rhode Island because Davol is based there
