BCBS Florida Moves to End Suit Over Its Medicare ‘Star Rating’

Health insurer Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc., citing potential losses of $68 million next year due to its downgraded 2025 “star rating,” moved for summary judgment Monday in its lawsuit against the federal Medicare agency.

The original complaint filed in December 2024 in the US District Court for the District of Columbia claims a 2019 rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that sought to minimize the effects of natural disasters and other extreme events on Medicare Advantage plans’ “star ratings” is “arbitrary and capricious.”
