The FDA plans to continue allowing the importation of certain infant formula products from abroad at least through October 2025, the agency announced Friday.
The Food and Drug Administration’s guidance instructs manufacturers of baby formula currently importing their products under the agency’s period of flexibility to notify the agency by Dec. 5 of steps they plan to take to bring their products into full compliance with FDA regulatory requirements. The recommendations aim to advance the agency’s goal of diversifying the national formula supply after a shutdown at an Abbott Laboratories Michigan plant earlier this year fueled a nationwide shortage.
