Attorney to Pay $100,000 to Settle Claims of Helping Hide Assets

RALEIGH, N.C .—An attorney based in Wilmington, N.C., has agreed to pay $100,000 to settle allegations that he conspired to defraud Medicaid by helping individuals hide their assets, representatives of the parties told BNA (United States ex rel. Ward v. Peck).

Under a settlement agreement reached with federal prosecutors, John J. Peck, an attorney with Legacy Lawyers, denied any wrongdoing but agreed to pay the fine to settle the matter. A judgment in the amount of $100,000 was entered June 25 by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
