AstraZeneca Argues Right to Life-Saving Vaccines in Injury Row

Drugmaker AstraZeneca is urging a federal appeals court to help it escape a legal battle stemming from alleged injury during a US Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial, arguing before a three-judge panel that federal law for health emergencies bars such claims.

“Legislators were forced to make the difficult policy choice—that in an emergency, the national interest is best served by the rapid development and deployment of life-saving vaccines without the looming threat of litigation,” Robert Reeves Anderson, an Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer partner representing AstraZeneca, argued Wednesday before US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit judges.
