The Arkansas secretary of state must conduct an initial count of signatures in support of an abortion rights ballot measure, the state supreme court ordered in litigation over the state’s rejection of the petition.
The Arkansas Supreme Court Tuesday ordered Republican Secretary of State John Thurston to complete a count by July 29 of all signatures collected by volunteer canvassers in support of a proposed constitutional amendment from Arkansans for Limited Government.
“The Secretary of State’s Office has seen the Arkansas Supreme Court’s order and will comply with that directive,” the office said in an email.
