Arizona Abortion Restrictions Targeted in Medical Provider Suit

Advanced practice clinicians, including nurse practitioners and nurse midwives, are suing Arizona to invalidate provisions that prohibit them from performing abortions.

Arizona voters approved a constitutional amendment legalizing abortion in 2024, prohibiting the state from enacting, adopting, or enforcing any law, regulation, policy, or practice that restricts the right to end a pregnancy before viability, absent a compelling state interest, the practitioners said in a complaint filed in the Arizona Superior Court for Maricopa County Wednesday. Laws and regulations that prevent them from providing abortion care violate the state constitution, they said.
