Bipartisan anti-discrimination organ transplant legislation that has earned broad support is now encountering snags in the Senate.
The Charlotte Woodward Organ Transplant Discrimination Prevention Act would prohibit providers from denying a patient a transplant based solely on disability. The House passed the bill (H.R.1520) on a voice vote last June, and in February, the legislation (S.1782) was heading to a markup in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
