Amazon, California Settle Claims of Mercury in Cosmetics (1)

Amazon.com Inc. agreed to pay nearly $600,000 to settle claims with California of illegally offering third party cosmetics containing high mercury levels, the state’s Attorney General Rob Bonta said Thursday.

California sued the e-commerce giant for violations of the state’s Proposition 65, which requires companies to warn consumers when products they produce or sell contain substances known to cause cancer or reproductive harm, according to the complaint. California also claimed Amazon violated a state Unfair Competition law.
