AIG, Berkshire Units Sued by Mortgage Company Over Cyberattack

Mortgage company Mr. Cooper Group Inc. sued American International Group Inc. and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. units over the insurers’ denial of a $30 million claim for losses from a cyberattack.

Mr. Cooper’s systems were hacked on Oct. 31, 2023, by a criminal group that encrypted data and disrupted operations, according to a suit the company filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

As a result of the hack, Mr. Cooper said it incurred costs to restore systems, pay ransom, and provide notification and monitoring to customers as required by state laws.
