An abortion rights measure on the South Dakota ballot failed to get enough votes to be added to the state constitution, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.
The proposition (Amendment G) would have prohibited any government interference in a person’s abortion decisions during the first trimester of pregnancy, while allowing the state to enact regulations in the second trimester “only in ways that are reasonably related to the physical health of the pregnant woman.” If the measure had passed, it would have permitted abortions in the third trimester in situations where a “woman’s physician” determines it’s necessary “to preserve ...
