Abortion providers in Arkansas sued state and local officials in federal court Wednesday to stop a new law that bans nearly all abortions from taking effect.
Act 309, which is scheduled to go into effect July 28, makes it a crime for anyone to “purposefully perform or attempt to perform an abortion” at any point in a pregnancy except in a medical emergency to save the woman’s life, the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas says.
