Abortion medication access in the US may hinge on whether physician groups have the right to sue the federal government, a legal question before the Supreme Court that attorneys say is colored by politics and ideology.

The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine and other medical groups have no right to sue the Food and Drug Administration because the groups’ members neither have been nor could be harmed by the agency’s approval of using mifepristone as part of a drug regimen to end pregnancy, the Department of Justice wrote to the Supreme Court.
