Abortion Funds Sue to Block Charges Before Texas Ban Starts (1)

Some providers of financial assistance to women seeking abortions sued Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and local prosecutors to prevent them from filing criminal charges once the state’s ban on the procedure goes into effect this week.

Fund Texas Choice, the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity, Frontera Fund and similar groups claim in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that they, their staffs and donors have been threatened with criminal charges -- including murder -- by some state lawmakers, who say helping Texas women get abortions outside the state violates a pair of anti-abortion statutes.
