Two Alabama reproductive rights groups are asking a federal judge to hold unconstitutional the state’s threat to prosecute them for helping people terminate pregnancies in states where its still legal.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R), at the same time, is defending his plan to use Alabama’s criminal conspiracy law to shut down the groups’ efforts to pay for or set up procedures in others states. The plan doesn’t unlawfully impede interstate travel or free speech rights, he said.
