The CEO of a pain clinic group was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his leading role in a $150 million scheme to give patients unnecessary back injections in exchange for opioid prescriptions, the Justice Department said.
Mashiyat Rashid, CEO of the Tri-County Wellness Group, was also ordered to pay more than $51 million in restitution to Medicare, and to forfeit property traceable to the proceeds of the scheme. That includes $11.5 million, real estate, private jet flights, and NBA season tickets, the DOJ said Wednesday in a statement.
