Yankees Minority Owner Beats Oregon Team’s Fiduciary Duty Claim

New York Yankees minority owner Marvin Goldklang doesn’t have to defend against an allegation he “schemed” to end an affiliate relationship between an Oregon-based minor league baseball team and the San Francisco Giants, the Third Circuit ruled Wednesday.

Sports Enterprises Inc., which owns the minor league team Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, didn’t demonstrate that Goldklang breached a fiduciary duty to SEI by working on a committee that changed Major League’s Baseball’s relationships with minor league teams, Judge Thomas L. Ambro of the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in an opinion to affirm dismissal.
