Whistleblower Drops Fraud Suit Against Maryland Culinary School

A former enrollment coordinator for a Maryland culinary school dropped his False Claims Act suit alleging that the school mishandled financial aid funds provided by the Department of Education, a federal court said Thursday.

Judge Deborah K. Chasanow of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland granted James Kelly-Creekbaum’s voluntary dismissal in a paperless order, according to the court’s docket.

Kelly-Creekbaum filed his suit in 2017 alleging that L’Academie de Cuisine and financial aid servicer FAS Solutions LLC overestimated the amount of federal grant and loan funds it needed for students eligible for financial aid, improperly awarded grants, ...
