Walgreen Counseling Fraud Lawsuit Paused for Settlement Review

Walgreen Co. and a whistleblower have reached a settlement in principle that would end a False Claims Act suit alleging that the company billed Medicare for “sham” medication counseling known as medication therapy management services.

The suit is now stayed through Oct. 28 so the parties can negotiate the whistleblowers’ attorneys’ fees, and for the US Department of Justice to review the proposed settlement, Judge Beth Bloom of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida said in a Tuesday order.
