The US Department of Veterans Affairs is keeping its $9 million recovery in a False Claims Act suit against a Texas educator for committing fraud under the Post-9/11 GI bill, which financially supports veterans who enroll in certain educational programs.
A federal district court properly found that Ricky Daniels Jr., director of career school ELPSS Career Institute LLC, knowingly made a false certification to the VA about compliance with the bill, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said in a nonprecedential per curiam opinion.
