The Department of Veterans Affairs owes back rent plus interest for not fully paying the $5,000-per-month lease for the basement of a Philadelphia property used for a veterans rehabilitation treatment program, the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals ruled.
Lessor 1425-1429 Snyder Realty LLC showed that it provided the VA with unlimited access to the basement and didn’t rent it out to a daycare that also occupied space in the building, Board Judge Kathleen J. O’Rourke said. The supplemental lease agreement was therefore supported by consideration, which is required for a binding contract, the board said in a Feb. 7 opinion. ...
