US Senate Undeterred in Support for Ukraine Security Assistance

The US Senate showed deep support for security assistance to Ukraine as Republicans banded with Democrats to defeat a provision by Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah that sought to limit the amount of aid sent to the war-ridden country.

  • Senators voted 13-71 to defeat the amendment to the annual defense authorization bill, S. 2226, that would have limited security aid to 2% of authorized funding until other NATO member countries spent or exceeded 2% of their GDP on defense
