US Coast Guard Seals $3.5 Billion Icebreaker Deal With Davie

The US Coast Guard awarded a $3.5 billion contract to Davie Defense to construct five icebreakers as President Donald Trump’s administration rebuilds its fleet of Arctic vessels.

The deal follows months of negotiations between the Coast Guard and the shipbuilder that were kicked off by an October agreement between Trump and his Finnish counterpart Alexander Stubb. It was agreed then that four out of a total of 11 icebreakers will be built in Finland and seven in the US.
