The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 98 showed that construction contractor Fairfield Co. violated the False Claims Act by improperly billing for workers under a partially federally funded railroad improvement project for SEPTA, a Pennsylvania federal court said.
Fairfield is liable for just over $1 million, Judge Mark A. Kearney of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said Wednesday, adopting a special master’s conclusion.
The federal government will receive $738,724; Local 98 will receive $316,596, the court said.
