Teachers Union Seeks Restoration of Income-Driven Loan Plans (1)

The US Department of Education unlawfully “shut down access” to income-driven student loan repayment plans, the American Federation of Teachers said in a complaint.

The department violated the Administrative Procedure Act and should be compelled to restore the income-based repayment plan and the income-contingent repayment plan, AFT told the US District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday.

The department has created significant confusion for borrowers who “simply want to pay back their student loans according to the terms that Congress, and their contracts, provide,” the complaint says.
