New York Cardiologist to Pay $6.5 Million Fraud Settlement (1)

New York cardiologist Klaus Rentrop will pay $6.5 million to resolve claims he violated the False Claims Act by paying millions of dollars in kickbacks to physicians for patient referrals, according to a Tuesday announcement by the US Attorney’s Office.

The US government will receive $4.5 million and New York will receive $2 million under the settlement, the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said.

Rentrop has agreed to relinquish ownership and control over his medical practice, Gramercy Cardiac Diagnostic Services, by the end of the year, and will pay a portion of the proceeds ...
