MedStar Exits Medicare Fraud Suit Following Settlement

A $2 million settlement allowed an Illinois federal court to dismiss False Claims Act allegations against MedStar Health Inc. and the company’s Washington Hospital Center involving Medicare billing.

The defendants Dec. 4 received a dismissal ruling from Judge Robert M. Dow Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, two weeks after reaching the agreement with whistleblower Cherry Graziosi.

Graziosi, a former employee of Washington Hospital Center, will receive $550,000, and the federal government will receive $1,450,000 under the settlement.

Claims against defendant R1 RCM Inc., formerly known as Accretive Health Inc., will continue.
