Homeland Panel Advances Bill on US-Mexico Border Contractor Work

A measure to increase oversight of private companies providing services at the US-Mexico border was approved by a House committee Wednesday.

House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.) said the bill (H.R. 4467) would bring additional accountability to the Department of Homeland Security after the Office of Inspector General found a “lack of transparency and oversight” with border contracts.

The DHS undersecretary for management would have to report on active contracts of $50 million or more.

The bill would reauthorize legislation from last year.
