Ex-Biotek Marketing Chief Resolves False Claims Act Allegations

The former chief marketing officer of BioTek has agreed to resolve allegations that she violated the False Claims Act to protect the company’s revenue stream, the Justice Department said Friday.

Carla Sparkler allegedly routinely waived the co-payments of Medicare and TRICARE patients to induce the purchase of the company’s drugs and services, according to the agency. Sparkler also allegedly paid kickbacks in the form of gifts, dinners, and free administrative and clinical support services to physicians to induce patient referrals to BioTek.
