DOL Debuts Two Rules to Change Course on Tipped-Worker Wages

The U.S. Labor Department proposed taking additional time to consider withdrawing a Trump-era measure that would have given businesses more latitude to pay a lower minimum wage of $2.13 per hour to tipped workers.

It was one of two proposed rules issued Tuesday targeting a Trump administration final rule, championed by the restaurant industry, that was completed in December. Biden DOL leaders previously rolled back its effective date by 60 days, to May 7, to allow for review of underlying law and policy.
