Background Investigator for DHS, DOD Admits to Faking Interviews

A former background investigator for the federal agency responsible for screening government employees has admitted to lying about investigative interviews.

Nousheen Qureshi—who agreed to plead guilty to a single count of making false statements—was employed by CACI International Inc., a Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency contractor.

From June 2018 to August 2021, she conducted investigations of candidates for Department of Defense employment, DOD employee background re-investigations, and investigations for security clearances of defense contractors’ employees. As part of those investigations, Qureshi was required to conduct interviews of witnesses who would have information about the individuals she was screening.
