A former professor at New York City’s Hunter College has agreed to repay the federal government $375,000 after improperly using HIV research grants for personal expenses including scuba diving in the Cayman Islands.
The agreement between Jeffrey T. Parsons-Hietikko and US Department of Justice is part of a two piece accord under which the college will separately surrender $200,000, both in settlement of False Claims Act violations, according to a pair of stipulations so ordered by Judge Ronnie Abrams the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
