California Man Sentenced for $1.5 Million Covid-19 Fraud Scheme

Eduard Gasparyan, of San Fernando Valley, Calif., has been sentenced to 210 months for using stolen identities to receive more than $1.5 million in COVID-19 pandemic-related unemployment benefits, the Justice Department said in a press statement on Friday.

Gasparyan, alongside his then-fiancée, also stole the title to cars by presenting forged documents to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, according to the Justice Deparment.

He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in February of 2023, the DOJ said.
