CACI Says Weak US Connection Means No Abu Ghraib Prison Damages

CACI Premier Technology Inc. urged the Fourth Circuit to throw out a $42 million verdict in an Abu Ghraib abuse case, because the US-based contractor shouldn’t be held accountable for conduct that occurred overseas.

A Virginia jury in 2024 awarded the three plaintiff-detainees compensatory and punitive damages after they claimed the contractor helped US military personnel abuse them at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in 2003 and 2004. CACI raised numerous objections with the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
