CACI Can’t Stop Abu Ghraib Case, U.S. Wins Exit on Settlement

The Abu Ghraib prison abuse lawsuit will continue against interrogation contractor CACI Premier Technology Inc. despite claims of immunity, a federal court ruled.

The derivative sovereign immunity defense won’t protect a contractor that says it was following government instructions if the contractor is accused of helping military personnel in acts of torture and war crimes, Judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia said March 22.

The task orders under which CACI provided interrogators to the Army at the prison required employees to comply with U.S. Code and international regulations, the court said. ...
