Massachusetts Eye and Ear, agreed to pay more than $5.7 million to resolve allegations that seven of their physician compensation plans violated federal law, according to a Wednesday news release.
The Boston-based specialty hospital allegedly violated the Physician Self-Referral Law in its compensation practices for 44 doctors, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
The Physician Self-Referral Law, also known as the Stark Law, doesn’t allow physicians to refer patients to receive “designated health services” payable by Medicare from entities that have a financial relationship with the physician, the US Attorney’s Office said.
