The bill would impose new verification requirements on agencies before they certify payments, expand use of the Treasury Department’s “Do Not Pay” prevention system, and require first-time recipients to report on how they used federal funds.
The measure is intended to crack down on improper payments by agencies, which have totaled about $3 trillion since fiscal year 2003, according to a June 4 Government Accountability Office report.
