Amtrak Contractor, Feds Resolve Buy American Violation Claims

Pennsylvania-based Wescott Electric Co. agreed to pay $54,983 to resolve claims arising from its use of Chinese-made parts during a fire alarm installation and renovation project at an Amtrak station in Philadelphia, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said Thursday.

The government alleged that Wescott neither determined that its parts were American-made nor worked through Amtrak’s process for obtaining a waiver to a Buy American preference rule, the announcement said.

Amtrak contractors are responsible for complying with a federal regulation that establishes a preference for using American-made parts when fulfilling those contracts, the announcement said.
