Amedisys Must Face Executive’s False Claims Retaliation Suit

A former vice president for home health company Amedisys Inc. may continue to argue that the company violated the False Claims Act by firing her in retaliation for calling attention to alleged Medicare fraud, according to an Illinois federal district court.

Therese Burke adequately alleged that she was fired for raising concerns about the company’s quota system for home healthcare patients that she believes required employees to submit fraudulent claims to hit their targets, Judge Steven C. Seeger of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said in a Wednesday opinion.
