Academy Mortgage Whistleblower Gets $8.7 Million in Lawyer Fees

A False Claims Act whistleblower that accused Academy Mortgage Corp. of improperly originating loans insured by a federal agency is entitled to $8.7 million in attorneys’ fees and expenses, according to a federal court decision made public Tuesday.

Judge Edward M. Chen of the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday unsealed the May 31 order partially granting Gwen Thrower’s motion seeking $13.7 million in fees and expenses.
