US Lacks Corporate Accountability for Human Rights, Report Says

The US “is not keeping pace” with European countries that are expanding their legislative frameworks to mandate corporate accountability for human rights, a new report says.

The report, published by New York University’s Stern Center for Business and Human Rights on Monday, warned that the European Union is effectively setting standards for US-based companies doing business abroad. This would put those companies at a competitive disadvantage compared to US businesses that don’t operate in the bloc and don’t have to meet the same standards, the report said.
