US Colleges Weigh Trump Demands With Billions of Funds at Stake

The White House is roiling college campuses yet again — this time, with its proposal to public and private universities to change their policies, or else risk billions of federal funding.

Faculty members are condemning the deal, saying it infringes on academic freedom. College presidents are seeking feedback from their many constituencies. Massachusetts Institute of Technology already rejected the pact, while Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber decried it as a dangerous step. And California Governor Gavin Newsom shot back with his own threat to eschew state funding for any school that signs on.
