Supreme Court Asked to Pause California Emissions Reporting Law

Business groups have urged the US Supreme Court to freeze a California corporate emissions disclosure law before it takes effect in 2026.

The US Chamber of Commerce and other organizations filed an emergency application on Nov. 10 after the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit declined to rule on their request to halt SB 253 by Nov. 3, according to a court filing. The 2023 statute requires companies to report their greenhouse gas emissions annually if they have more than $1 billion in annual revenue and do business in the state.
